Obstacles & Opportunies

  • ACCESS

In the Northern Territory specifically, the Aboriginal Land Rights Act has granted land in freehold to indigenous land owners over approximately 90% of the coastline. In order to get access and develop blue carbon projects in these areas, proponents need to go through the relevant land councils who also govern areas subject to Native Title.

  • STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

Given the complexity and rapid emergence of carbon projects, stakeholder engagement is the single most important aspect of development. Engaging all levels of government from local upto the commonwealth and consulting landholders whether they are pastoralists, TO’s or native title holders, they are all critical for the sustainability of a project.

  • APPROVALS

Approvals can be difficult to manage given the infancy of blue carbon projects in Australia. Before a project can go ahead, it must be registered under a methodology - each methodology has its own requirements. Furthermore, state and National environmental approvals such under the NT EPA and EPBC are a pre-requisite for any project impacting the environment.

 Guiding you through the process:

  • We collaborate with you to understand your organisation’s goals. Together, we identify opportunities for carbon avoidance or removal in terrestrial and marine environments.

  • Based on your objectives, we develop tailored carbon project recommendations for your organisation.

  • After you have made a decision based on our recommendations, we support you throughout the project delivery. This includes advising on stakeholder engagement, land access, project registration and securing necessary environmental approvals.

  • We continue our assistance through the project management phase, guiding you until you successfully receive your carbon credits.
